Terms of Service
These terms govern your use of this website and any service you order from London Editors. Please read them before placing an order — by ordering, you accept them.
1. About these terms
These terms form a contract between you and London Editors. They apply from the moment you submit an enquiry or place an order. If you do not accept them, please do not use our services.
Nothing in these terms removes your statutory rights as a consumer under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.
2. What we provide
Depending on what you order, we provide:
- Proofreading — correction of grammar, spelling, punctuation, consistency and formatting.
- Editing — structural and copy editing to improve clarity, flow and readability while preserving your voice.
- Academic editorial support — guidance on structure, argument, referencing and formatting for dissertations, theses and research papers.
- Publishing services — editorial, cover and interior design, and distribution through Ingram and Kindle Direct Publishing.
We provide a professional service carried out with reasonable care and skill. We do not guarantee any particular grade, mark, examiner outcome, journal acceptance, sales figure or commercial result.
3. Academic integrity — please read carefully
Our academic work is editorial support and model material for research and reference purposes only.
Any model paper or sample we supply must not be submitted, in whole or in part, as your own work. Doing so is likely to breach your institution's academic misconduct rules and may also breach the law. You are solely responsible for how you use what we provide.
Many universities permit third-party proofreading, and many recommend it — but the rules differ. It is your responsibility to check your institution's policy on third-party proofreading and editorial assistance before ordering, and to declare our involvement where your institution requires you to.
We do not sit examinations, complete assessments on your behalf, or log in to any university system for you.
4. Ordering and quotes
Quotes are based on the word count, deadline and depth of work you describe. A quote is an invitation to proceed, not a binding contract; the contract forms when we confirm your order and you pay any agreed deposit.
If the document you send differs materially from what you described — significantly longer, a shorter deadline, or requiring deeper work — we will tell you before starting and re-quote. You are free to decline at that point at no cost.
5. Payment
Prices are quoted per project and confirmed in writing before work begins. Work starts once payment or the agreed deposit has cleared, unless we have agreed otherwise with you.
To be completed before launch: accepted payment methods, whether VAT applies, deposit percentage, and terms for instalments on larger projects.
6. Delivery
We deliver by email or by the file-sharing method agreed with you.
- Standard proofreading of documents under 3,000 words is returned within three hours.
- Most other orders are delivered within 24 hours.
- Long-form theses and manuscripts are delivered in agreed stages.
Deadlines run from the point payment clears and we have every file and instruction we need. If we are waiting on something from you, the deadline moves by the same amount.
If we are ever going to miss a deadline, we will tell you as soon as we know rather than letting it pass silently.
7. Revisions
If the delivered work does not match the brief you agreed, tell us within 7 days of delivery and we will revise it free of charge.
Revisions cover work within the original brief. New requirements, added chapters, a changed argument or a different referencing style are new work and will be quoted separately.
Where a revision cannot put things right, our Refund Policy applies.
8. Your responsibilities
- Give us accurate contact details, and check your spam folder for our replies.
- Send complete files, the correct brief, your word limit and your referencing style.
- Send your institution's formatting handbook where one applies.
- Check your institution's policy on third-party editorial assistance.
- Keep your own backup of every file you send us.
- Review the delivered work and raise any issue within the revision window.
9. Intellectual property
Your work stays yours. You keep all rights in the documents and manuscripts you send us, and in the edited versions we return once payment is complete.
Where we provide publishing services, you retain the rights in your book. We do not acquire ownership of your manuscript.
Until payment is complete, we retain the rights in the edited output we have produced.
The design, text and code of this website remain our property and may not be copied.
10. Confidentiality
We treat your work as confidential. Editors sign non-disclosure agreements, your files are never resold, published or reused, and we delete them on request. See our Privacy Policy for how we handle personal data.
11. Cancellation and your right to change your mind
As a consumer buying a service online you normally have 14 days to cancel. Because our work usually begins immediately, by asking us to start within that period you agree that we may begin — and you accept that once the service is fully performed you lose the right to cancel. If you cancel partway through, you pay for the proportion already delivered.
You can cancel before we start at no cost. See the Refund Policy for the detail.
12. Our liability
We do not exclude or limit liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded.
Subject to that, our total liability for any order is limited to the amount you paid for that order. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for lost marks, missed deadlines caused by late instructions, publication decisions taken by third parties, or for any consequence of misusing model material contrary to section 3.
13. Acceptable use
You agree not to use this site or our services to break the law, to impersonate anyone, to submit another person's work as your own, or to disrupt the site. We may refuse or cancel an order where we reasonably believe it would involve academic misconduct or illegality.
14. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. If you live elsewhere in the UK, you may bring proceedings in your own jurisdiction.
If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest continues to apply. We may update these terms; the version in force is the one published when you place your order.
